Greetings,

I am Melody Hill, the new President of Federated Garden Club of Minnesota. I feel very honored to have been given this opportunity and look forward to working with you.  Summer has been busy with plant sales, garden tours, and flower shows. The FGCM Flower Show at ‘’The Great Minnesota Get Together’’ was the grand finale of summer.

I came from a farming family; gardening is in my blood. My Great Grandparents had a big farm in Iowa & my Mother helped them during the summers. When my siblings & I were growing up we always had flowers and vegetables & working in the garden was part of our chores.

I currently live in Crystal, Minnesota and work in Child Nutrition as a cook with the Robbinsdale, School District. I love to spend time with family, go to the cabin, go camping, fishing, & ATV riding. I enjoy taking nature walks, gardening, bird watching, scrap booking with my mom and son, and getting together with friends.

I joined the Robbinsdale Diggers Garden Club in 2012 after a friend invited me to a Garden Tour and Potluck at a member’s home, (Millie Hisey). I learned a lot and the tour was amazing. People were so nice and friendly. I have now been the Secretary for a couple of years and am also their photographer/historian. I have learned that the best way to gain new members is by personal invitation.

My Theme for the coming year is “Grow with Friends thru Gardening and Education”. My President’s Project and Goals are to increase our membership while encouraging our clubs to utilize some of the grants and scholarships available to them. I am hoping to work with children and their parents by connecting with 4H clubs, Girl Scouts & students involved in the Farm to School programs. I hope to work with Minnesota School Nutrition to encourage more schools to start Farm to School programs. This may be a way to introduce youths and their parents to gardening. My goal is to show them the beauty of gardening and friendship.

I am looking forward to working with all of you.  I am here for you and am open to your ideas. Please contact me at melhill9425@gmail.com  or 763-587-3653

Sincerely, Melody
